We decorated 500 bags!

About our project: After scanning the internet I came across your idea and immediately knew this was the project for my students at Delaware! I contacted the local Buy-Low grocery store and they were enthusiastic since it is a community store that our parents shop at. They have always been generous with us and this time was no exception. They supplied us with a bale of brown bags and we did the rest. Our students decorated with many "Earth Day" and related themes and some were truly works of art. We started in 2006 and continued in 2007 and have already made plans to decorate our 2008 bags. Several parents went to the store to specifically get the bags atheir kids decorated and many other community members commented on the project with positive feedback. We are proud to be a participant of this activity and thannk you for your great ideas. Go Green! Amy Cole

We decorated 150 bags!

About our project: Even though Earth Day has past, The Indianapolis Boys & Girls Club Wheeler-Dowe Unit wanted to send the message that “Earth Day is Every Day”. After searching the web for something special to do for Earth Day, I came across this wonderful web-site, how easy: borrow, decorate, return and report. Brown grocery bags were borrowed from two of our local markets: Fifty bags were borrowed from O’Malia’s Foods Market, located at 5550 Fall creek Pkwy and one hundred bags were borrowed from Good Earth Natural Food co., 6350 Guildford Ave. The response from the children was unbelievable; ages 5 to 17 years old wanting to join in on the effort of raising awareness and getting the message out about keeping a clean environment. I was overwhelmed by the eagerness and team work shown by the children. (It was so much fun, we had bags, markers, crayons and pencil spread out every where, even some of the staff members participated). Once the grocery bags were completed, our children took a field trip to the stores to proudly present the bags in person to the manager and store owner for distributions. LOOK AT OUR PICTURES!!! Thank you; this was a very creative project with a positive outcome. “SEE YOU NEXT YEAR”

We decorated 400 bags!

About our project: On Earth Day, April 22, 400 grocery bags from the students at Washington Center Elementary were decorated with environmental messages and passed out (full of groceries) to shoppers at White Swan Grocery Store. The students' designs were diverse and enlightening. In response, we received several letters from shoppers thanking the students for the beautiful bags and wonderful messages! We are pleased and proud to be a part of the 2007 Earth Day Groceries Project!

We decorated 260 bags!

About our project: Our school was looking for something to do for Earth Day and I had seen this activity earlier in the year. This looked like an easy enough project to do on a short notice. We had great fun creating the bags. It worked out so well we plan on doing it again next year.
