We decorated 36
bags!
About our project: This year we only had 1 evening to decorate the bags and were unable to have a class from the city come to help. The kids had a great time decorating and Kroger's was happy to display the bags. Looking forward to Earth Day 2007!

We decorated 68
bags!
About our project: About our project: The high school mentors and the elementary school "littles" in the High Five Mentoring Program at Calumet/Laurium/Keweenaw, Dollar Bay/Tamarack and Chassell Schools had a great time with this Earth Day project. The mentors had an opportunity to talk to their "littles" about Earth Day and how we can Reduce! Reuse! and Recycle!. The discussion gave them ideas about the message they would like to convey on their grocery bag flyers. The grocery bag project was successful for our program because it was a fun learning experience! We'd like to thank Pat's Foods of Hancock for using our flyers in their grocery bags and distributing our message.

We decorated 400
bags!
About our project: This was our second year participating in the Earth Day Grocery Bag Project. I was the coordinator again. The students decorated their bags during their Art time this year. Their Earth friendly messages and art work were very impressive! (Our Art teacher, Mr. Jeff Frank, really motivated them!) We also watched the power point presentation provided by the project. The store director at Meijer, Ms. McDonald, said the project went over well on Earth Day and that her customers were impressed with the bags and our school's message to be Earth friendly! This community service project was a win-win project for all involved. The students really took it to heart. The staff was great with their support. Plus...I learned how heavy 400 bags are when I took them back to Meijer for distribution on Earth Day 2006. Here's to saving Mother Earth, Mrs. Kimberly Easley

We decorated 400
bags!
About our project: This was our sixth year participating in the Earth Day Grocery Bag project, and a great opportunity for the community to see the fine art work of our middle school students in an informal setting. Each year our students and staff put forth more effort into this project and this year was the best year yet! It was a fun and easy way to spread the message to reduce, reuse, and recycle.
