We decorated 600 bags!

About our project: I discovered this project last year while searching for ideas for our annual Earth Day Art Contest. Participation had dropped off and I was looking for a fresh idea. We were overwhelmed by the response! Approximately 600 bags were decorated and handed out by two of our local grocery stores. Special displays were created with selected bags. One bag was selected to have the art transferred to t-shirts given out to participants at our annual Earth Day Bicycle Tour on the refuge. The selected bag was then framed and presented to the student at one of the participating grocery stores by myself, the store manager and Charlie Charlton, mascot for Keep Charlton County Beautiful. The event was covered by our local media.

We decorated 278 bags!

About our project: Being our first time, we had some trouble getting the art teachers on board with the project. The children were getting no direction and we had to throw out some of the bags that were just completely unacceptable. But, we kept visiting and bringing examples and ideas. In the end, we ended up with 278 beautiful bags.

We decorated 250 bags!

About our project: Our students loved doing this! Each 5th grade class decorated their bags with various slogans and pictures. Then, the best bag from each class was choosen to be photographed and added to the web site. The thrill of competion always adds to any project.

We decorated 50 bags!

About our project: The Earth day grocery bag project was an huge success. Our children loved decorating their bags. Our parents helped by assisting his or her child to decorate additional bags at home. I had some parents decorate 2-3 bags.
