We decorated 100
bags!
About our project: This was our first year participating in the project. It was a great success. The kids had a lot of fun decorating the bags. We picked up the bags one month before Earth Day so the kids could have enough time to decorate the bags. Each day, the kids would decorate the bags after completing their regularly scheduled schoolwork. The evening before Earth Day, the kids dropped the paper bags back off at Publix to the store manager, who had agreed to hand the bags out on Earth Day. We have been invited to do the project again for 2006.

We decorated 641
bags!
About our project: All children participated in decorating the grocery bags. Beautiful Save the Earth messages and pictures covered them. While the children had lots of fun, they also learned how even at their young age they could deliver a message to others on the importance of caring for our environment.

About our project: I was coordinating the activities for our annual Family EarthFest Celebration this year, and stumbled across this great idea. Even Publix had never heard of this project! We will do again next year!

We decorated 164
bags!
About our project: This was the first time our school participated in The Earth Day Groceries Project. Publix donated the bags, and our Principal Dr. Tarver, staff members, students, and their parents were very supportive. This began as a project for my third, fourth, and fifth grade math/science students, but our wonderful fourth grade department, Mrs. Caceres, Mrs. Santalla, Mrs. Ceballos, and Mrs. Lana, along with Mrs. Ebra-Perez, a third grade teacher, and Mrs. Sandin, the art teacher, participated with their students. This project allowed students of various grades and levels (ESOL, ESE, Gifted, and regular) to appreciate and respect nature. Students in my class read The Lorax by Dr. Seuss, researched endangered species, wrote poems about them, did booklets about the sea turtle, and played simulation games related to the sea turtle. As a follow up with Publix, their staff and customers loved our bags! I plan to make this project an annual event.
