We decorated 427
bags!
About our project: The students at DeGolyer really loved the Earth Day Bags project. We collected approximately 427 bags to distribute. The staff at the Tom Thumb Store at Forest and Marsh was wonderful. They were as excited about the project as the children. The artwork was outstanding and it helped the children to learn what Earth Day is all about. We look forward to next year’s Earth Day Bag project.

We decorated 16
bags!
About our project: This was such a fun classroom project! Tom Thumb's managers were very willing to donate bags and appreciated our efforts. (Unfortunately, I had to remind some of them that the bags were for Earth Day and what Earth Day meant exactly...) The children had a blast decorating the paper bags with sayings like, "Recycle, Reduce, and Reuse" and "Save Mother Nature". I was very proud of them. As an extension, I gave them another assignment. They had to find an article in the newspaper about an environmental issue, read it, and then present it to the class. They needed to be able to explain why it was an important issue and why we should "care". Both assignments combined was a great way to raise awareness for Earth Day!

We decorated 396
bags!
About our project: Our principal, Mr. Cruz first suggested we do this project at our school. With the help of teachers and students we decided it was something we would all benefit from doing. The first supermarket we went to, El Globo, agreed to participate. We were very blessed to have such a wonderful supermarket to sponsor our Earth Day Bags Project. The managers at El Globo were open with the idea and supported us from the beginning. Once a store was found, the teachers at the school shared the PowerPoint Presentations, EarthDayBags and EarthDay2003, with their classes. The children were very excited to get started. They really suprised us with their completed bags. We then picked one student from each grade level to deliver the bags to El Globo. Everyone had a blast. We drove the bags down to the store and took a few pictures with employees. All in all, this has been a wonderful project. We look forward to next year:)
