We decorated 200
bags!
About our project: We decorated 200 bags. The students really got into the project and the bags turned out wonderful! It was hard to return them to the store! A lot of parents shopped at Bashas on Earth Day and enjoyed receiving the bags. The K-4 classes all went a step further and created recycling boxes for the classrooms and even planted a tree on the playground. Much was learned about the 3 "R"'s and the children are now very aware that they can make a difference in the health of our Earth.

We decorated 568
bags!
About our project: This is our first year participating in the project. We had classes from every grade level, K through 8, participating at our school to decorate 568 bags. We had a great time decorating our bags and learning about our environment. Our local Fry’s Grocery Store and the Commissary at Luke Air Force Base made wonderful displays at their store to showcase our artwork. We can’t wait to do it again next year!

About our project: My students had a blast decorating their bags for Earth Day. They were so excited when I told them that some lucky person would be taking groceries home in their bag.

We decorated 169
bags!
About our project: Morristown is a small rural school between Phoenix and Wickenburg. Every year the students and teachers look forward to the Earth Day Grocery Sack Project. I get the bags from Wickenburg Basha's because they know the drill and are very friendly.

We decorated 850
bags!
About our project: This was a really great school wide project! Although I sent out the e-mail opening it up to other teacher in hopes of a large number of participating classrooms, I didn't expect 20 other teachers to join in! I heard from many teachers about the wonderful conversations that occured in the different classrooms while preparing to decorate the bags. Each teacher with whom I spoke said that their class loved doing the bags and the idea that their message is getting out to everyone! I think the one suggestion that I have is concerning working with different grade levels. As I was looking through the bags and making sure there weren't any last names, I found myself thinking as a shopper. As a teacher I loved them all, but as a shopper, I would want to know from what grade the children came... It really explains a lot to someone who isn't familiar with the children. All in all, I think this was an wonderful activity!!
