We decorated 500
bags!
About our project: My fourth graders eagerly teamed up with a 2nd grade class for this Earth Day project. We distributed the 500 bags, donated by Ingles of Simpsonville, to classes in grades 1 - 5 throughout the school and also to faculty and principals. We had students decorate the bags and put our school name - Bryson Elementary - on the bottom of each. We discussed how everyone should recycle and 'save our Earth'. We brainstormed ways we could help recycle around our school and at home. The students were so enthusiastic about the project, they could not wait until the day we would give out the bags to the classes. Collecting the decorated bags was just as exciting - looking at the different ways they had been decorated. Getting the principal's decorated bag was the highlight of their afternoon. We also used this project as a cooperative learning experience with our 2nd grade partners. We worked together to distribute and also to collect the bags. The bags were returned to Ingles and were distributed to their customers on Earth Day 2002! This project is a wonderful way to help students learn about 'saving our Earth'. It is a project that can involve everyone in school or just a few classes, if you so choose. The best part is - IT'S FREE !

About our project: This was very successful for our community and our school. Some of the bags were sent home and decorated as a family project. We received beautiful bags. I heard wonderful comments from parents and other teachers.
