We decorated 1600 bags!

About our project: The South St. Paul Community of Promise Task Force, which is a Community Partner with the America's Promise - The Alliance for Youth sponsored the first Annual Earth Day Grocery Bag Project throughout the Community of South St. Paul. In a cooperative effort with the Community of Promise Task Force, Knowlans Grocery Store in South St. Paul, Lincoln Center, Kaposia Elementaty School, St. John Vianney School and Holy Trinity School joined forces to decorate over 1,600 grocery bags with Earth Day Messages. These brightly decorated bags were returned to Knowlans, where the bags were filled with the customer's groceries with a message that the kids care about the environment. The Earth Day Grocery Bag project was a Community Building, cost free awareness project that teamed up youth and our local grocer. The kids have a great time decorating the bags and the customers requested the decorated bags over the plastic bags. Out local cable station did a neat story for the kids to see themselves on T.V. and to pass on the message of Earth Day. In addition, Knowlans in South St. Paul was awarded a Red Wagon Award, from the South St. Paul Community of Promise Task Force, for their participation in the program. A Red Wagon Award is an award given to individuals, organizations, or businesses that benfit the youth in the Community of South St. Paul. The Earth Day Grocery Bag Project is a great project and we're ready to do it again next year!!

We decorated 600 bags!

About our project: We talk about pollution, recycling and the earth's natural resources. This was a way to get the whole school involved in a service learning project with our community. Kids have a great deal of impact on how to inform the public. If we can teach them about environmental issues as kids, it may have a lot of impact on their behavior as adults.
