We decorated 2360
bags!
About our project: Earth Day Acadiana in Lafayette, LA has been involved in the Earth Day Groceries Project for the past two years. We contact local grocers and schools, deliver bags, and pick them up when the schools have decorated them. We have had a wonderful response to this activity from the schools and grocers. We had seven elementary schools in Lafayette Parish participate this year with a total of 2360 bags decorated. One of Earth Day Acadiana's goals is to get all of our elementary schools involved in this project. Thank You for the idea. ------- Ernest Gallet Elementary 2901 E. We decorated 150
bags!
About our project: Earth Day 2000 was the first time that our school participated in the Earth Day Groceries project. In Computer class, we went to kidsdomain.com to learn about recycling and preserving our environment. Some students used the computer to write a short essay or a picture rebus on the importance of Earth Day and what they could do to help. The younger students made an Earth Day Friendship bracelet. They used brown cord to represent the earth and added different colored beads - green(grass), dark blue(water), light blue(sky), yellow(sun), and white(clouds). All students in the Elementary and Vocational Training Departments were responsible for decorating a grocery bag. We walked to our neighborhood grocery store, Robert's Fresh Market, to deliver the bags. The manager told us that the bags were such "works of art" that he wished he didn't have to give them away. We can't wait until next year!
