About our project: This is the first year I was involved with the project. I saw it last year on the web. It seemed like a lot of fun and now I can say it was!!! My environmental club sponsored the project telling about it on the morning news program and giving examples of what you could write on the bags. There were so many beautifully decorated bags with such creative messages. The next day after I had taken them back to the Winn-Dixie where I had "borrowed" them, the manager said that several of the students had been in with their families wanting their particular bag to bag up the groceries. They were looking through the stacks of the bags she told me. We decided to make this an annual thing! It really is a great idea, Mark. Thanks so much for making it such a great project! Sarah Harkey

About our project: We completed this project with the help of our art teacher. She had the students decorate the bags in their weekly art class. she also talked to them about the importance of recycling and caring for our environment. I got the bags from our neighborhood BiLo grocery store, a school-business partner. We returned the decorated bags to them on Friday for distribution during the weekend. Since we are a neighborhood school, I am sure many of our students delighted in getting the bags on their trip to the grocery store!

We decorated 102

About our project: We started out with the idea of decorating about 50 bags because we were not sure of how many students would participate. Once we got started the enthusiasm mounted and we were able to decorate more bags that we anticipated. Had time permitted, we would have done more. The students enjoyed the project and our goal for next year is to decorate 200 bags with our recycling messages. The project was an overwhelming success.
