We decorated 450
bags!
About our project: The grocery bag project was one way that our school participated as a whole to celebrate Earth DAy. We decorated our halls with the bags the week before earth day. All the teachers and students enjoyed the activity, and since it was also one of our too many testing weeks, it was a pleasant contrast to paper and pencil and pressure. We also gathered as a whole schooland planted a memorial tree in our garden in honor of a dedicated volunteer. We shared our wishes for the future of the earth and placed these wishes at the roots of the tree.

We decorated 36
bags!
About our project: I was looking on the internet for an Earth Day project when I came across earthdaybags.org. I went to the Glenway Superstore and I asked if they would be interested in participating in having decorated Earth Day bags given out in their store. They agreed. We began talking about Earth Day and what kinds things we can do to save the Earth. We discussed recycling, throwing garbage away and reusing things. Then we decorated our bags and took them over to the store.

About our project: The class meets once each day, and is a leadership class. We do projects for the community at large. Each day we invited a friend to our classroom to make more bags. The Earth Day Bag project lasted one week. Our local Albertsons was our sponsor, providing the bags. Our purpose was to raise the awareness of our environment. Our state is very environmently conscious.

We decorated 61
bags!
About our project: I began the project by telling the children what we were going to do with the bags and what Earth Day is all about. We verbally generated some ideas of ways to be nice to the earth. The main ideas the children came up with were not littering, and not hurting plants and animals. I even had one of my 3rd graders decorate his bag with a "no slash and burn" message. They then took their ideas and turned them into pictures. They really liked this activity and felt a sense of pride that they would be giving a message about Earth Day to shoppers at this store.
