We decorated 984
bags!
About our project: I found out about the project in March, while I was looking for a special activity to do with my students. When I read all about the project I knew I found what I was looking for. I really like to involve other teachers in Science so I spoke with our 2 Art teacher (4th-6th, 7th-9th) and my Science mentor involved the pk-3rd grade teachers. So we all worked out the project. Students in my school never saw or worked with this kind of project and the loved it. We had a difficulty finding the paper bags because no supermarket worked with them any more. So we had to buy them at the begining. I went to a Comercial Center next to our school (Garden Hills Plaza) and spoke with the ownwers and they said they agreed to hand in the bags, and also in a supermarket near my house (Supermercado Econo Morales). They agreed to buy the paper bags so we could decorate them. By the week of April 2-6 we had out Subject Week where we exhibit students work in all subjects in a very original way. So Science and art worked together to exibit out cooperative work. Children were amazed to see their drawings in exibition. In Puerto Rico we have a 2 week vacation for Easter and we couldn't send the bags by April 22, Earth Day, but Monday April 23 we delivered them to the Supermarket (Econo Morales) and 12 other stores in the Commercial Center (Garden Hills Plaza). Mangers in the commercial center got so excited with the bags that they will donate their bags for next year. This project was really fun to do with the children and I would definitetly work it next year.
