We decorated 180
bags!
About our project: I am the teacher of 7th and 8th grade gifted students at South Girard School. As a mentoring project, my students chose an elementary school in our district, Meadowlane Elementary as the host site for the groceries bag project. We gathered bags from three local grocery stores, Winn Dixie, Piggly Wiggly, and Rainbow Foods. My students were then assigned to specific classrooms (K-4) to present a brief history of Earth Day and read an Earth Day story. After the story, the younger students were introduced to the project and encouraged to decorate the bags with Earth Day messages such as "Happy Earth Day" and "Save Our Planet". After decorating the bags, the school counselor and me redistributed the bags to the participating stores. A local TV station provided media coverage.
