We decorated 300
bags!
About our project: We found the Earth Day Bags project on your web site after a student expressed interest in Earth Day. Everyone was excited about taking on the project. We worked together with CHS Cares, a community service group in our school, the high school Art Club, and with the 5th grade at the nearby elementary school. The 5th graders made the bags the project for their entire wing of the building then returned them to the high school for distribution. At the high school bags were designed in art classes, at a meeting of the Art Club, and in other classes. We also set up a table in the cafeteria with bags and materials for decorating them (paints, markers, crayons, etc.). After finishing lunch, students worked at the table to make their contributions. Earth Day fell during our spring vacation so not many of us were able to see the end result of this project. However, the store manager (who was a very enthusiastic supporter) told us that people requested more paper bags than plastic on that day and that he heard many positive comments about it. He is already planning for his participation next year! We had a great time working on this wonderful collaboration! Thanks for making it possible for so many schools to share their results with each other.
