We decorated 900
bags!
About our project: As part of a unit of inquiry titled, Earth in Our Hands, the grade three students at AISA helped distribute and decorate 900 bags to those who wanted to participate. At first, 900 bags seemed like a daunting task, but once we started recognizing and thanking participants through the school's daily bulletin, participation increased. We ran out of bags to distribute! It motivated students to see the PowerPoint presentation of the careful work done by other students. We couldn't have done this without the help of our community. Some parents personally contacted stores to explain the project and transport bags to and from the school. One family travelled to a different city to obtain bags from Magrudy's, a popular book store in Dubai. While some students decorated and wrote messages directly on the bags, others chose to send their messages on a separate sheet of paper and then glue it on one side of the bag. Different mediums were used: paint, crayons, oil pastels, markers, sequin, feathers, tissue paper, felt, and tape. We had a variety of final products thanks to participation by grades K-12 and teachers. This was a satisfying task for us to participate in. Many students plan to especially visit the participating stores on Earth Day, April 22nd, to see the bags being used and the word about saving the earth, spreading. Thanks earthdaybags.org!
